Uploading / Sending your image to us:
If you will be sending us a logo, it should be black and white line art preferably in a vector format (eps / ai). We can accept .cdr (CorelDRAW) as well. Some quality image files such as: JPEG or GIF can produce nice results. We'll let you know if we require a better image.
All fonts should be converted to
curves, outlines or paths. If you do not have a vectorized font, please make
certain to include your font (.ttf) file when sending us your logo. Please try
not to send color logos, it's much more difficult to get perfect results. Please
contact us if you're not sure if
your logo will work or not.
In order to obtain absolutely perfect results, it's
imperative that you supply us with high quality images. If you'll be scanning an
original photograph, please scan it at least 300dpi with high color, or
grayscale (no black and white) . Please do not scan photocopied images,
home-printed digital images, newspaper graphics, postcards, magazine photos,
letter heads, business cards, or anything other than an original photo. Please
make certain that your photo is large enough to be engraved on the item that
you're purchasing. If you have a small photo and it has very sharp clarity, we
may be able to increase the size. Please do not send us old black and white
photographs. Typically the clarity isn't good enough for us to reproduce. If you
have a special photo that happens to be black and white, please
contact us.
The best type of image to send to us are digital images. These images, typically
in .jpg format, are usually very high resolution (detail); therefore, can be
manipulated quite a bit. Digital images taken directly from your camera will
most likely need to be scaled down in size in order to upload them to our
server. If your image is larger than 2MB (2048KB), please email it to
sales@nosplinters.com (please include
your name and order # within the email).
When supplying us with your own graphic image, please make certain not to use an
unusual, or extremely decorative fonts. Fonts that have very narrow lines, are
very difficult to engrave with complete clarity. Please try not to supply
graphics that are multi-layer vectors. If your supplying a vector graphic, all
lines must be set to hairline properties. Please keep in mind that if we have to
modify your graphic, we will have to charge a fee.
*NOTE: If you are supplying your own graphic, and it's a one-time project, we require that you submit your image before purchasing one of our products or services. Laser engraving custom images on stainless steel, aluminum, marble, ceramic tile, or any other material that cannot produce depth, requires the graphical image to be absolutely perfect in order to obtain good results.
If you will be sending (mailing) us your photo, please make certain that it's an original. We cannot accept photo copied, newspaper, magazine, letter-heads, business cards, or postcard photos. If your photo is irreplaceable, we do not recommend that you send it to us, please have someone digitally scan your photo and email it to us, or use our file uploading; available during the checkout process. Please make certain that your image has good separation of the subject, and the background. Try to avoid someone wearing a dark suit, at night, standing in front of a tree, this type of photo does not work well at all.
The perfect type of image
to engrave is an image that has bright colors, with plenty of separation
(contrast) between
subjects of interest as well as proper shading and highlights;
mainly when dealing with facial characteristics and textures. The sleeping baby
below is an example of a great image for laser engraving. You can very easily
see the details brought on by shading and highlights. Another important thing to
keep in mind is the type of material you will be having your precious photo
engraved upon. If the engraved product is metal, ceramic, acrylic, colored
plastic, or some other type of material that won't allow for darkening to
display the depth of the original photograph, it is very important that your
photograph contains exceptional detail and contrast. If the engraved product is
wood, leather, paper, or textiles, the original image can lack in some of the
detail and contrast. If you're not sure if your image will perform as well as
you'd like, please
send us your photo and we will evaluate it,
free of charge.
EXAMPLE OF GOOD AND NOT SO GOOD PHOTOS:

The image is about as good as it gets on this example. As you can tell there's plenty of separation between the blue sky and the little cowgirl. These types of photos will produce the best results when laser engraved.

This example shows very little separation between the subject and the background. Though the finished product doesn't look too bad, but you want to avoid this type of image. If you have an image like the one to the left. Please remove the background before sending it to us for engraving.

are sent to us require extensive editing, we will need to charge an additional
$25.00 (per image).
If you are placing a large order, we will wave this fee.

processing. As mentioned
above, please choose an image that has good separation between the subject and
